Why I love NFB Pix Stop, the best education iPad app yet!
Believe it or not, this video was created by a six-year-old, on her own in less the one hour. Her mother had previously demonstrated how the app worked, then left her on her own with the iPad. Voila les resultants:

Over and Under the Snow By: Kate Messner

Over and Under the Snow is a sweet picture book by Kate Messner, illustrated by Christopher Silas Neal. Simple images capture the chilly winter feel as animals cope with the joys and challenges of winter weather.

 In this interview Chris describes his process as he creates the drawings for this book.

"What imagery will be on this page? How is the overall pacing of the book? Are there enough little animals and big animals, close ups and wide shots? These are the kinds of questions I would try to answer while drawing. Later on, I would work out how each creature would be drawn and what each tree will look like."

I think I'll be wanting my own copy of this one!

Pattern Block Animation with ipds

Two grade 4/5 students are creating an animation using pattern blocks, ipads and NFB Pix Stop. Animation was never easier than it is now with NFB's new app called Pix Stop.This is technology at it's best: the tool is invisible.

Pattern Block Dance

This animation was created by two grade 4/5 students in about an hour. We were exploring the capabilities of NFB's (National Film Board of Canada) new animation app for the ipad called PIX STOP. What fun we had creating the stories and working with found objects to animate them! This app also has a great feature where you can easily alter the speed at which you want your animation to run by changing the number of frames per second. Loving these tech tools! :)
